Japan Navy participates in U.S., Australia, and Philippine led Multilateral Exercise (Exercise SAMASAMA/LUMBUS 2022) October 6- 20, 2022
The Indo-Pacific Deployment 2022 (IPD22) unit, JS KIRISAME and US-2, participated in a multilateral exercise called “Exercise SAMASAMA/LUMBUS 2022” hosted by the United States Navy (USN), the Royal Australian Navy (RAN), and the Philippine Navy (PN) in order to strengthen cooperation and to realize a “Free and Open Indo-Pacific.”
Sama Sama is an annual bilateral navy-to-navy exercise between the Philippine Navy (PN) and the U.S. Navy (USN), while Lumbas is a yearly bilateral navy-to-navy exercise between PN and the Royal Australian Navy (RAN). This is the first time that the bilateral exercises were conducted simultaneously.
The exercises with the PN, USN and RAN focused on warfighting capabilities, while the French Navy (FN), Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF), and Royal Navy (RN) participated primarily in humanitarian assistance and disaster relief training.
Ages Aviation Center, Inc. is honored to have once again been selected to provide service to the JMSDF US-2, a large Japanese short takeoff and landing amphibious aircraft developed and manufactured by seaplane specialist ShinMaywa (formerly Shin Meiwa). Part of the services we provided for the JMSDF was office spaces in Ages’ Building 2 for the flight and maintenance crew of the US-2 to use during their two (2) week long stay in the Philippines. Also provided were multiple ground support equipment (GSE) such as cherry pickers, pushback tractors, maintenance stands and forklifts to name a few. It was another privilege to have been able to host the Japan Embassy Manila, JMSDF guests from the PN, Philippines Air Force and other select diplomatic guests at the Ages lounge where various discussions were made.
